Comma.
It won't happen again, I promise. There's an announcement to that effect. I apologize.
Maybe you often feel like you're not enough. You've done something once, twice and the third time, you feel like you can't do it. Then, you begin to wonder if that is your niche, if that is what you're actually meant to do, if you can actually do it. If you're someone like me, then I guess you'd become down and heavy with thought and maybe go back to the Holy spirit to ask what your purpose is, you'd sit down and worry so much till it takes a toll on you or instead, you come to a conclusion that you can't do it and go to bed. You can do any of this. I'm not going to encourage or discourage you. No be me go tell you wetin you go do.
I joined a writing group few months ago and they give us weekly tasks. We are mostly told to write according to a prompt. I managed to do it the first week, the second week, I was busy. The third, I couldn't write anything. Then, I began to ask myself if indeed I could write poems or anything in general. Anyone that knows me know that I can string up words and come up with something beautiful (I know I'm doing well). I'm still bothered that I couldn't come up with anything though.
When you're at that stage, it's just a pause. You can choose to remain or continue. If you choose to remain, it might be a full stop. If you choose to continue over and over again, it becomes hard for you to stay on a spot for too long. It is easier to pick yourself back up when you fall. You can do it, if you think you can. If you say you can't do it, even if they wash your head in Ògùn river, you can't do it.
Make your decision. Don't let yourself be discouraged by little things this week. Keep trying!
I should probably stop telling you books I'd read and rather tell you what I read. Well, I read a book different from the one I told you about last week. I read Akwaeke Emezi's Bitter and here's a review I wrote. 👇
“Bitter - Akwaeke Emezi
Bitter- what an interesting read. It's about Bitter who was growing up as an adopted kid in the walls of Eucalyptus, a school for artists. She was recruited by Miss Virtue from her foster parents because she wanted to feel safe. She didn't like the outside world, Lucille because of the unrest that was going one. She didn't want to be a part of the revolution but desperately wanted change.
Bitter has the ability to call up her drawings and paintings with few drops of her blood. When Eddie was shot, with anger and hate in her blood, she called out out a creature which would eventually cause chaos in Lucille.
The book focuses more on friendships and relationships. The author talks about the LGBTQ+ community well enough to feel it. The affection that exists between Alex and Blessing was well told and not made to feel like fiction. I don't usually enjoy reading queer stories but this one was an exception. I'd definitely read something else from the author.”
To my announcement, I'd like you to know that I'd be sticking to sending one newsletter per month, instead of sending them weekly. Lately, my life got more boring and I've been feeling less motivated to write. Oh. It's been a month since I started sending you newsletters.
See you next month! Finna miss you. 🥺
Selah!
